Talent on show for Red Nose Day

On Friday 15th March, SMBS School Council organised a Non-Uniform Day and a Key Stage 3 Talent Show to celebrate and raise money for Red Nose Day.

There was a lot of organising and planning before the day, which is a huge credit to the hard work and dedication of the School Council. We would also like to thank Miss Reeves for her help in music lessons leading up to the event and her help and support on the day.

The talent show was a huge success, with 10 student acts ranging from singing, piano pieces, a tube quiz and a Y7/8 supergroup as well as 2 teacher acts from Mr J Laux who lip synced Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and Mr A who performed an original song about how happy reading makes him.

We were all so impressed with the confidence it took for our students to perform and each student received a certificate for their participation.

Our judging panel, consisting of Miss Miller, Mr Riley and Head Student, Hezha (Y11) had the difficult task of deciding on the winners, but after careful deliberation, they awarded first, second and third prizes:

3rd place - Tim (Y9) for his impressive tube quiz
2nd place - Sibelle (Y8) for her rendition of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ that had the whole hall singing along
1st place - Genesis (Y7) for his creative improvised piano piece

Congratulations to our winners and all our performers. We look forward to hosting the event again in 2025.
