European Day of Languages

Pupils celebrated European Day of Languages this week.

European Day of Languages was an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic diversity of languages spoken in Europe and an opportunity to celebrate the linguistic diversity in our own school community.

Pupils found out about the different languages spoken by pupils and staff across the school. At SMBS, we are proud that over 26 languages are spoken by our school community from Portuguese to Twi and Bengali  to Greek!

Each term, pupils learn about the Language of the Term and this term, it is Albanian. Daniela in Year 10 and Dea and Year 11 introduced us to some phrases in this language.

Pupils participated in some activities to try and guess which different languages they were hearing and had a go at some Spanish tongue twisters.

There is also a competition which pupils can take part in to create a poster to celebrate some of the different languages spoken at SMBS. The deadline for entries is Friday 6 October.
