SMBS Sports Day 2024

SMBS annual sports day took place on Thursday at Paddington Recreation Ground.

After several days of grey clouds and rain it looked like the annual SMBS Sports Day might have to be cancelled for the first time in its history. However, we were lucky once again and the day dawned bright and sunny.

Staff and pupils made their way down to Paddington Rec in the morning, assembling on the grandstand for the start of the day's track and field events.

Pupils competed in small groups throughout the day and there were some impressive individual performances and some highly competitive races.

Events began on the track where all pupils participated in 400m races followed by 100m races. It was particularly impressive to watch pupils in their 400m events where they had to pace themselves and really challenge themselves to make it around a full lap of the athletics track. The 100m followed with more excitement and surprises.

Field events followed the track events and pupils took turns to participate in the long jump, shot put, discus, javelin and shooting hoops.

Staff were involved in the competition as well. A new champion was crowned in the highly competitive staff 100m race. Mr G came in first just a head of Mr Weymouth and Mr Davis in second and third places.

The day also saw the inaugural staff Egg and Spoon race where, after some controversy, Ms Miller was eventually crowned champion.

It was a fabulous and fun day with pupils and staff all cheering each other on.
