Careers on the high seas

This term, Year 10 students had the chance to step back in time and explore one of the world's most famous ships - the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

Cutty Sark - an historic 19th-century ship, once the fastest of its kind - provided the perfect setting for students to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of maritime careers.

After arriving, we were greeted by enthusiastic guides and workers who brought the ship's history to life with stories of daring voyages and record-breaking journeys. As we walked beneath the massive hull, it was hard not to feel a sense of awe, imagining the challenges sailors faced as they crossed rough seas.

Once aboard, we explored the ship's deck and crew quarters, learning what life was like for sailors over a century ago.  The best part? We got hands-on experience scrubbing the deck and learning about the many different maritime careers available today. From ship captains and marine engineers to oceanographers and conservationists, the industry has so much to offer for those with a love for the sea and adventure.
