Year 8 and 11 Explore the World of Money at the Bank of England!

Our Year 8 and Year 11 students recently enjoyed fascinating visits to the Bank of England Museum, where they had the opportunity to explore the history of money and discover how our currency is made and managed.
Students learned about the journey of a banknote, from how it is created and the security features that help us identify genuine notes, to what happens when old banknotes are taken out of circulation and recycled into new products. They also explored the museum's interactive exhibits, discovering how money has changed over time.
One of the biggest highlights was the opportunity to lift a genuine gold bar! Students were amazed by its weight and enjoyed the rare chance to get their hands on something so valuable.
Our Year 8 students shared some of their favourite moments:
"I loved touching the gold bar. It felt smooth, heavy, and very cold.”
"I learned how real banknotes are made and how to tell if they are real using a torch and magnifying glass.”
