Protective Behaviours Aims
The Protective Behaviours Curriculum aims:
- To develop pupils' understanding of their fundamental right to feel safe, equipping them with the life skills to recognise their body’s "Early Warning Signs" and respond to them effectively in various environments.
- To enhance pupils' oracy and communication skills, enabling them to clearly articulate their feelings, set personal boundaries, and confidently use their voice to seek help from their support networks.
- To engage pupils through creative exploration and multi-sensory activities, using role-play, social stories, and imaginative scenarios to rehearse safety strategies and explore "Safety Thinking" in a supportive environment.
- To foster independence by providing pupils with practical tools to assess risks and make informed choices, empowering them to navigate their community and "next steps" in life with increased autonomy.
- To support pupils in developing a deeper understanding of their own emotions and physical sensations, building the self-esteem and resilience necessary to protect their positive mental health and personal wellbeing.
- To enable pupils to identify, build, and maintain a trusted "Helping Hand" network, encouraging them to be active and safe participants in their school and wider community.
