Food Technology Aims
The food technology curriculum at SMBS aims to:
- To empower students to develop independence and essential life skills, enabling them to feed themselves and others healthily, affordably, and confidently, while fostering a lifelong love of cooking.
- To develop students’ practical cooking skills, nutritional understanding and confidence in making informed food choices that support wellbeing and self reliance.
- To enable students to communicate effectively, explain processes, justify decisions and evaluate outcomes through regular participation in student-led demonstrations, discussions, and peer feedback.
- To encourage experimentation, problem solving and originality by providing opportunities to adapt recipes, design and execute their own dishes and menus, and take creative ownership of their cooking.
- To build technical competence and confidence in the safe and effective use of kitchen equipment, promoting autonomy, responsibility and independent learning in the kitchen.
- To cultivate students’ ability to reflect critically on their own work and the work of others, supporting continuous improvement, independent thinking, and personal accountability.
