Open Afternoon: A Celebration of Learning and Creativity

On Thursday 10 July, the school opened its doors to parents, carers and friends for our annual Open Afternoon—and what a fantastic event it was! We were delighted to welcome around 30 visitors, all eager to get a glimpse into life at SMBS and see the brilliant work our pupils have been doing.

Guests were taken on guided tours around the school, visiting a variety of lessons and learning spaces. In PE, pupils were practising their cricket skills, while in Food Tech the delicious smell of cakes being baked filled the corridors. Over in Science, pupils were busy conducting experiments, showcasing their curiosity and enthusiasm.

Up on the Blue Floor, preparations were underway for a performance of a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with pupils working hard on props and costumes. Visitors also had the opportunity to visit the Art Therapy space, where the team from At The Bus explained the work they do with pupil groups to support creativity and wellbeing.

On the Purple Floor, guests visited the Drama and Music Room, where a short film was playing showcasing Year 9’s work on Lorca’s Blood Wedding. Year 9 pupil Jacob gave a thoughtful and confident talk about the play and what pupils had learned through the project.

The afternoon concluded in the Sports Hall with a joyful and imaginative performance by Year 7—and a few guest stars from other year groups—who brought The Tempest to life with original songs and spirited acting.

A huge thank you to all the parents, carers and friends who joined us and helped make the afternoon such a warm and memorable celebration of our school community.
