Bringing history to life through Wordless Stories

Two members of staff at SMBS, Mr A (Humanities) and Ms Mumbi (RS), have been involved in an exciting national project in partnership with Historic Royal Palaces, as part of the development of a new educational resource called Wordless Stories.

As a co-creative partner, SMBS worked alongside teachers from other special schools to support the creation of a series of wordless historical narratives. These stories are designed to make history more accessible and inclusive, particularly for learners with additional needs, by telling powerful historical stories entirely through images.

Mr A and Ms Mumbi took part in a series of professional consultations, helping shape the content, accessibility and classroom usability of the resources. Their insights as specialist educators were used to ensure the stories would be meaningful and engaging for a wide range of learners.

The Wordless Stories webpage officially launched on January 14 and can be accessed here. Schools across the UK can now access the first story, Elizabeth Tudor.

The school will be receiving two A3 hardback copies of Elizabeth Tudor, which will be added to our school library for students to enjoy.

This project is a fantastic example of how SMBS is contributing to national educational innovation, while ensuring that inclusive, accessible learning remains at the heart of everything we do. We are looking forward to contributing further to this project in the future.
