Islamic art at The Wallace Collection

Year 11 pupils participated in a workshop focusing on Islamic art at The Wallace Collection last week.

The Year 11 students looked closely at the decoration on different artefacts in the museum and explored the links between mathematics and art. They learnt how geometry is an essential component of Islamic art.

Working with an artist trained in the Islamic tradition and taking inspiration from objects in the Collection's Ottoman, Middle-Eastern and Asian arms and armour collections,  students created tessellating patterns using a compass and watercolours.
