Humanities Aims
The humanities curriculum at SMBS aims to:
- To spark curiosity and inspire thoughtful questioning about global issues, encouraging creative thinking and independent enquiry.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the past and its consequences on the present, enabling pupils to make informed connections and apply learning as a key life skill.
- To build knowledge of British and world geography, understanding how physical and human geographical features change over time and how these changes affect people’s lives.
- To develop critical thinking and creativity through the exploration, analysis, and evaluation of global events and issues.
- To develop strong oracy and communication skills, enabling pupils to articulate ideas clearly, express opinions confidently, and challenge others assertively, respectfully, and sensitively.
- To develop independence in collecting, analysing, and interpreting data relating to past events, fostering problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- To develop practical geographical skills, including map and compass reading, supporting independence, resilience, and real-world life skills.
