Drama Aims
The drama curriculum at SMBS aims to:
- Develop pupils’ skills, knowledge and understanding of a range of drama genres and styles of performance, supporting them to explore different ways that stories and ideas can be communicated on stage.
- Support pupils to build strong teamwork and collaborative working skills, enabling them to contribute ideas, share responsibility, and work effectively as part of a group.
- Engage pupils through multi-sensory, accessible teaching approaches, using practical exploration, modelling, and structured routines so all learners can participate successfully.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to perform and explore a range of characters, helping them understand emotions, motivations and different perspectives through drama.
- Support pupils to develop a stronger understanding of themselves, building confidence and self-esteem through structured rehearsal, performance experiences, and reflection on their progress.
- Develop pupils’ social communication skills through drama, supporting them to practise interaction, turn-taking, listening and cooperation in order to build positive and meaningful friendships.
