Parent Engagement and Workshops

Partnering with Families

At St Marylebone CE Bridge School (SMBS), we believe that parents and carers are essential partners in their child’s education and development. Working together, we can create the best possible outcomes for every student.

We recognise that parents bring invaluable insight and expertise about their children. By fostering open and collaborative relationships, we aim to ensure parents feel empowered, informed, and supported throughout their child’s journey with us.

Our partnership with parents includes:

  • Transition Day for Year 7 Parents: Before their child starts school, parents are invited to visit in June for a dedicated transition day. This is an opportunity to learn more about the school, meet the team, and share their priorities with a member of the therapy team. This ensures we start with a strong understanding of each child’s unique needs and goals.

  • Workshops: We host regular sessions on topics such as understanding language disorders, supporting mental health, and navigating social and emotional needs. These workshops provide practical advice and opportunities to connect with other parents.

  • Reports and Communication: We provide regular updates to keep parents informed about their child’s progress:

    • Wellbeing and Protective Behaviours: Progress is included in termly academic reports.
    • Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT): Students receive a full assessment and detailed report when they join the school, and again in Year 10 to support the transition to Key Stage 5.
    • End-of-Year Summary Report: Each student receives an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) report at the end of the academic year, outlining all the therapeutic support they have received throughout the year.
  • Ongoing Support and Planning: Parents are welcome to contact us at any time during the school year to discuss their child’s needs in more detail. Twice a year, we hold dedicated parent days where parents can book time with a member of the therapy team to discuss their child’s progress and priorities. A speech and language therapist also attends each annual review to ensure communication needs are carefully considered and integrated into the child’s plan.

By working together, we aim to build a shared understanding of each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals, creating a supportive network that helps them thrive both at school and beyond.
