Computing Aims

The computing curriculum at SMBS aims to ensure students:

Have an understanding of the use and impact of technology in the world we live in. 

  • Develop computational thinking in the use of new and existing technologies.
  • Develop analytical skills in computational problem solving.
  • Engage in practical experience or writing computer programs (both visual and text based) in order to solve problems. 
  • Experience and apply the fundamental concepts of computing, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation. 

Prepare for a technological future that is forever evolving.

  • Become digitally literate with the ability to express and develop ideas through information and communication technology.
  • Become active participants in the digital world. 
  • Develop the skills and experiences in computing and related technologies that will enable pupils to enter further education/work and adult life as confident and capable individuals.

Use technology safely and responsibly.

  • Become responsible users of information and communication technology in a wide variety of contexts. 
  • Understand a range of ways to use technology safely, respectfully, responsibly and securely, including protecting their online identity and privacy. 
  • Are able to recognise inappropriate content, contact and conduct and know how to report concerns.
