Welcome                                      Term 1: October 2025

As we come to the end of the first term of the new academic year, it has been a busy and positive start across the school. Our new Year 7 students have settled in well—getting to know their teachers, their peers, and school routines.

This term’s events and activities have been led by the SMSC and Creative Arts Faculty. Pupils have enjoyed the Creative Arts After School Club, creating wonderful autumn-inspired artwork.

Year 11 attended the Green Futures Careers Fair, exploring opportunities in sustainability. Year 11 have also been putting their entrepreneurial skills to the test as they get the Heaven Eleven Cafe ready for business on the last day of term. A group of pupils enjoyed a matinee performance of the new musical Hercules, and eight students from across the school have started an exciting textiles project, working with industry professionals to design and make their own creations learn more about careers in fashion and textiles. Meanwhile, Year 10 students have gained valuable experience through weekly work experience at Granville Gardens.

We hope everyone enjoys the half-term break, which runs from Monday 20 October to Friday 31 October—the first time SMBS has had a two-week break at this time of year. We hope it proves restful and enjoyable for all. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 3 November at 8:30am for the start of Term 2.

As part of The Village project students in Year 9 were tasked with observeing a PE lesson and writing it a summary as if it was a sports match in the village they have created:

On Tuesday P6 the year 10’s are having PE, they started by playing the bucket challenge. So many adults were cheering and encouraging other students. Olly managed to throw two balls in a  row. I managed to have a conversation with this legend and he said he learnt from the best (AKA Mr Gadogbe). Moving on next was bull dog. Everything was so intense, lot of shouting, cheering and sportsmanship. The most intense moment was Olly and Samuel, they were being pursued by chasers, they were so close to the end, the chasers were getting closer and it looks like the chasers got them but they both made it!

Everybody cheered and clapped and showing good sportsmanship all around. Wait I just got news that Miss Hassan has accused Mr Gadogbe of cheating. Mr Gadogbe has yet to address these rumors. What a great PE lesson, until next week.

Granville Commuity Garden work experience

Some of our Year 10 students have been taking part in a six-week project at the Granville Community Garden. During their sessions, they’ve been learning all about pollination, composting, weeding, and how to carefully rehome snails away from the delicious vegetables! They’ve also been helping to keep the garden clean and tidy.

The students have really enjoyed the experience, and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm grow each week. Who knows, we might have some future gardeners in the making!

Threads of Elegance fashion and textiles project

As part of the Threads of Elegance project, students this term have engaged in weekly fashion and design workshops, recycling old garments to help form their own pieces of clothing. The students have created a vast array of outfits, from dresses, to shirts and shorts.

The workshops have enabled the students to learn new skills from industry professionals, such as taking measurements, stitching and sewing. Upon completion of their projects, students will have their sketches and garments presented in an exhibition, organised by Westminster Archives.
